  1. We decided on hosting files that can only be defined in the File Editor in our own CDN, that way we're not dependent on SquareSpace and we can manage them better.

However if in the future we need to use Javascript Modules we will run into the same issue since those files tend to be hosted in a Dummy Page through the File Editor unless said module is referenced as a URL offsite.

After further testing the issue itself is not the Sitewide Password, but the fact the website was still in a Trial subscription.
We took the opportunity of a promo to go through with a subscription, and as soon we did that our files hosted in SquareSpace started working in both the *.squarespace.com domain and in our custom domain.

I can only see this as oversight on their backend, I don't see how it would make sense during a trial to only allow Files uploaded to the File Editor if it is being accessed directly through *.squarespace.com, after the trial runs out sure, but during one? Oh well...

Your site appears to have a site-wide password at the moment. You'll need to remove this password if you would like the file to be accessed.

Yeah we're still using the Trial, trying to get a feel of things first before we fully commit to it.

Is it somewhere documented that when using Sitewide Passwords in conjunction with Custom Domains it'll break links?
Because I can open that PDF file just fine if I use https://ist.squarespace.com it just doesn't seem to work with https://iltis-pls.ch

What is the URL that fails? Is it the one above, starting ‘static1’ or is it a different one?

Guess I replied to fast, it is the static1 url that fails.
If I attempt to open it through the Image using https://ist.squarespace.com it works, it fails with https://iltis-pls.ch returning 403.

    EDIT:
Decided to delete the file and upload it again, same result, still not working.

  4. Hello,

at wits end trying to fix this, new to SquareSpace and currently testing it out through the Trial.
After defining a custom domain, all linked URL's of uploaded files stopped working when I attempt to open them through the Custom Domain.

When I attempt to do the same using the Domain that SquareSpace provides it works.

An example is the following URL:
    https://static1.squarespace.com/static/643d530b42858724168435fa/t/643d565e1acee1465267394d/1681741423011/ausgabe.pdf

    Which returns:
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 ()

Then like mentioned above if I do the same procedure by accessing it through the SquareSpace provided domain, it works, with the same URL.

DNS Settings seem to be fine, all values that SquareSpace asked for are present, a Certificate was generated shortly after too.

Error 403 usually is permission related, I however couldn't find anything in the Link Editor to set that up...
