So, Chris.SE's solution works awesome and he was generous enough to put his code out there for free. His post is a couple pages back, but here is the link https://schwartz-edmisten.com/blog/how-to-set-squarespace-portfolio-items-to-draft

Maybe Squarespace needs to just pay him for this code to embed into their product and create a toggle button with it.

I have created a free, comprehensive code solution for creating "draft" portfolio items:
    https://schwartz-edmisten.com/blog/how-to-set-squarespace-portfolio-items-to-draft

The reason I felt the need to create this code solution is because a client came to me needing this exact functionality. The existing accepted solution in this thread only takes into account hiding the post on the main portfolio page, but people can still navigate to it using the pagination from another post. Also, because it requires changing the URL slug, if you want to set an older post to draft that has already been indexed, then people will get a 404 because the URL has changed when they click that link.

My code takes all of this into account. Pagination of draft items are hidden, and the URL slug doesn't need to be changed. You simply change the post title from Post Title to (Draft) Post Title. If someone tries to navigate directly to the Draft item using its URL, they will be redirected to the main portfolio page.
I think I have truly thought of everything with this plugin and it should be a good solution until Squarespace wakes up and finally implements the feature themselves. I have a video on the post that walks through the entire functionality if you are curious about how to use it.

I would love to hear people's feedback! Hopefully this saves some people from needing to leave the platform.

Same frustrations here. Seems like such a basic feature to implement for thousands of users who need this. Where is everyone going if they leave SS? I have had great success setting up a free portfolio page on Adobe Portfolio. Kind of clunky for customization but not bad at all for a basic portfolio -- curious if others have good alternatives?

Just to add my disappointment here as well – Why has Squarespace rolled out 7.1 and removed so many features from 7.0? I feel like I've gone back in time when I "upgraded" to 7.1 from 7.0 – and simple fixes like this are nowhere in sight after three years.
I need a proper fix for this problem, I can't be editting a page in a portfolio section with it live – it looks unprofessional, sloppy and is confusing for users.
I enjoy using squarespace for its simplicity and code module – but what the heck is happening over there? Why has the product stagnated so severely??

This is one of the (many) reasons I will be leaving squarespace in the next couple of months.

They can't even fix simple problems like this, that their actual customers have wanted them to add for years.
Hopefully more people leave and they realise they should be listening to their customers more.

In a handful of days this post will be 3 years old without any integral solution rolled out. I along with many others have contacted customer support with this request. Is it really that difficult to script a toggle switch to activate/deactivate a portfolio page. Why?
