Browser Back Button keeps returning to website home page

Whenever I am going through the pages of my website shop, if ever I push the browser back button, it always takes me to the homepage of my website, rather than the previous page in my shop. How do I fix this? I have customers complaining.

I don't experience this issue when browsing your shop. If I click the browser back button when viewing a single product, I am returned to the list of products.

Can you provide some more details of the issue? If you can include a video (Loom is a great free tool for this!) that may help us to understand the issue in context.

If you go to my shop, then click on page 2, then page 3, then page 4, etc., and then select the browser back button. It brings you to the very first page in my shop. Rather than the previous page in my shop. So if you were browsing all the pages of my shop and you were on page 7. And then clicked the back button, it would take you back to page one as opposed to page 6.

I just checked again and it still does that

The numbered buttons at the foot of the 'Shop' page aren't Squarespace-provided buttons and don't link to discrete pages of content. Instead, these are provided by the Universal Filter plugin that has been installed on the site. Although the plugin divides the 'Shop' page content into separate batches of products, the buttons link to groups of these products that are all on the same page. This is why clicking "back" doesn't take the user between these batches of products.

The browser back button is working as expected. For example, if you click on Shop and them click on Gift Certificates, and then click Back, you'll return to the Shop page.
