Domain showing old site not new squarespace site

I had an existing google sites website through google domains (now owned/transferred to Squarespace). I decided to build a new website via Squarespace and created an account. However, I cannot get my new website to show up on my existing domain. I tired changing the connection and selected my new website, but my old site still shows up. The only way for me to view my new website is through my built-in auto generated domain. I'm thinking it might be a DNS issue but this all so foreign to me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you had a Google domain, now a Squarespace domain,  and you can see it in your Squarespace account, then connect it not forward it to your Squarespace site.

Go to your domains panel here: https://domains.squarespace.com/ you may need to log in. Choose  "manage domain" in the top right corner. Then choose your domain. Choose DNS in the left panel. DNS defaults will come up on the right. Delete them using the red trash can icon. Also delete the forwarding under custom records and the Google domain key, in other words, clean out all your DNS records. Then go to your Squarespace site configuration panel, and choose the gear icon at the bottom of the page. Choose Domains/email at the top of the panel, on the right choose Use a domain I own, and follow the prompts from there including loading the defaults. Once done the site should come up.

I deleted the forwarding and now I only have one DNS record. Is this how it should look? When I enter my URL it now says this site can't be reached and not secure.

I had to change the DNS setting and add the custom record back in because when I deleted it, my company emails stopped working. Website is still not showing up. I get a "this site cant be reached" displayed when I enter my URL.

This is my A record for my site without using the WWW

derricksrandomviews.com A 14400 198.185.159.145

add a custom record to your DNS settings, you only need the following one since your www records are loaded.

host: @

Type: A

Data: 198.185.159.145

@derricksrandomviews Im having a similar issue. I have an old site that was set up to forward to https://positivechangeforeveryone.org/home/. However, I've redone the site and setup a new domain of thepeoplescause.org but when you go to thepeoplescause.org url, it just reroutes to https://positivechangeforeveryone.org/home/. I have followed EVERY video and I canNOT find any settings to adjust a forwarding address. This is the steps Im taking...

1. go to: https://domains.squarespace.com/ , log in

2. Click on website

3. Ride side panel pops up with ONLY 1 option: button that says "manage domain settings"

4. When I click that, I get taken to the settings profile of the website, on the "domains & email" tab. There is NO option to set up domain forwarding like in all the videos here. So where the heck is this website currently setup for forwarding?? Im baffled.

....How do I get the site to go to thepeoplescause.org?

@derricksrandomviews i'm having a similar problem for my domain - viaka.net.

I've been trying to switch since last Friday, but it is still showing the old site.

In my domain settings, the domain seems to be pointing to the correct site name (the "new site," Viaka 3), but the thumbnail shown is still from the old site.

I deleted the old DNS records and re-set everything but that seems to have compounded the issue in a different way - I now keep getting email bouncebacks from my company domain (@viaka.net) when sending an email to gmail accounts (screenshots below).

How can I get the new site to show up and get my email working properly again? 🙂

Thanks

@derricksrandomviews nevermind - I fixed this last part just by making the old site private. It seems it was somehow taking precedent over the new site at the domain address?

It could have been a time issue. The DNS settings had not propagated through the net yet. Taking the site private speeded that process up I think.
