Digital Theft

My site recently suffered an incident where thieves "purchased" my entire store of digital products using stolen credit cards. I'm now waiting for stolen copies of my past 5 years of work to appear on one of the internet's less reputable websites. 

I know there isn't much that can be done technically to protect digital products, but does anyone know of any safeguards or settings in Squarespace that could be used to make thefts like these at least more difficult for thieves to pull off? They basically made X number of individual purchases in the space of a couple of hours, across about 3 to 4 different accounts, all with stolen credit card information and email addresses from temporary email address providers. Purchases all appeared to come from the USA (we're UK based), but that's just who the credit cards were stolen from.

I'm seriously considering just not selling digital products any more, but they represent 20-25% of my overall revenue so it would be a big hit to my bottom line to do something so drastic and would effectively make my business UK-only, as shipping costs to the USA, etc. make physical products prohibitively expensive compared to domestic competitors.

It's incredibly depressing, so would good to hear any measures others have taken to protect themselves.

So per my understanding, they completed the purchases and get to download the original files,, then the transactions are cancelled due to stolen cards right?

@Beyondspace yeah, that's right. Then I have to issue refunds for the people who's card details have been stolen and report the transactions as fraud, but they've got the digital product by that point.

Sorry to hear that 😞 I guess that we have to live with in the digital world, payment process like Paypal always favor issue for buyers
