Jordn Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Site URL: http://jordnmixing.com Hi, No matter how many tries and tutorials I've watched, I can't seem to get a simple anchor link to work that would help engagers navigate to different sections on my one-page design. I have three sections on my page now (I have not yet published). I want to have links in the header that take visitors to the second ("The Mixes") and third ("Contact Me") sections, and I will probably want to add more sections later. I created this code for the Contact Me section: <p id="contactme">CONTACT ME</p> (see pic). For the header link, I created a link from the Pages sidebar (see pic). LINK TITLE: CONTACT ME, URL: #contactme This made the "CONTACT ME" link in the header area, but it doesn't work. I've also tried other methods but have yet to be successful. I'm probably doing something fundamentally wrong but can't figure it out. I would appreciate any help. NOTE: This is a personal account. Thanks!
CassAggett Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) @Jordn What kind of block are you adding your code to? If you're on a personal plan, you should be able to do this with a Markdown block. Check out this tutorial: https://www.will-myers.com/articles/perfect-anchor-links-in-squarespace Also does your site have more than one page? If so, when using anchor links in the main navigation you'll also need to include the URL slug, e.g. /home#contactme (this is because while the #contactme link would work for someone already on the home page, if they tried to access it from a different page the browser wouldn't know where the link was and won't work) Edited October 8 by CassAggett additional info Ziggy 1 Instruction: How to set a site-wide password If this helped you, please like or mark my solution as answer so others can scroll to it quickly 👆 Cass Aggett is a Squarespace website designer for go-getting women – no matter what stage of business. Jordn Posted October 9 Author Posted October 9 (edited) Hi, Cass, Thanks for responding! I actually just upgraded to a basic business plan. My site only has one page. I am trying to have links in the header that, when clicked on, scroll the customer down to the linked section. I created a block in the "Contact Me" section that contains the code. Then, I created a link block in the header. What's weird is that it worked a couple of times when I did this, but only once. Additionally, I already followed the tutorial you linked me to, but I am still having the problem. I must say I am surprised Squarespace doesn't have a simple option for anchor link presets. UPDATE: I just went through the motions again with the tutorial. The link still does not behave as demonstrated. Edited October 9 by Jordn
CassAggett Posted October 9 Posted October 9 @Jordn Are you testing the link in the backend of your site / edit window? If so, this won't always behave the same way as the live site. Can you set your website to password protected instead of private and share the password? Solution Jordn Posted October 10 Author Solution Posted October 10 Mmm. It seems to be working now. I know my support person at Squarespace escalated the issue to the developers; maybe they did something.
