Nameserver registration

Hi everyone, I'm trying to connect my host with a domain name I bought via SquareSpace. Thing is when trying to add name servers it's asking me to enter "hostname" yet not allowing leaving it empty, @, or * signs to set up an A record. I was able to set the hostname as www for cname, but not for the raw domain. Any help on that?

I'm running into this same issue when trying to set up my domain with an external DNS. I'm not sure if setting the hostname to "www" will do what I need it to and can't leave it blank for the bare domain. Should this be set to "www" or some other value? 

I believe I figured it out, for my scenario at least. Rather than using the "Nameserver Registration" page, I needed to use the "Domain Nameservers" settings page and click the "Use custom nameservers" button in the top right to add my custom nameservers. This form doesn't have a "hostname" field and just accepts the nameserver's addresses.
