Help needed with lost page functionality during upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1 in Navigation, Navigation dropdown, and sub pages

Site URL: https://www.redbridgeecc.com/

Hello, I'm reaching out for some help in regards to some functionality that I lost during the 7.0 to 7.1 upgrade on my site. This started when I noticed an issue in the Nav where the Our Program is listed on the site. It was showing the dropdown as white text with a white background. I resolved that with some custom css.

When I initially previewed the 7.0 to 7.1 upgrade, I took screenshots of current pages and some settings so I could check against any potential adjustments I'd need to make. The Our Program page in preview worked as it had previously. Once I pushed the upgrade, it was then noticed that Our Program was no longer functioning as intended. Please see below for the current things I need help with.

Navigation:

  • Our Program no longer directs to "Why ECC?"
    • Note that this is intentional functionality desired.
    • All settings I've checked haven't revealed a way for me to direct our program to why ECC on click.

When in the sub pages under Our Program:

  • Prior to the upgrade, there was a side nav on those pages to navigate through the sub pages in this dropdown so users wouldn't have to jump back and forth as they navigate the pages.
  • I'm trying to figure out how to add this functionality back.
  • See the attached screenshot. It should show what I'm wanting to do.
  • The 7.0 version of the screenshot will have red markup.
  • The 7.0 version of the screenshot will not.

School Year Calendar

Would appreciate any advice on how to resolve.

On Squarespace 7.1, dropdowns (previously called "folders") aren't clickable on the desktop navigation. You'll need to use custom code if you'd like to have this functionality. Please see my guide, How to make Squarespace navigation dropdowns clickable.

The sidebar sub-navigation was a feature that was specific to Bedford-family templates on version 7.0. It isn't available on version 7.1. You could use code to mimic this behaviour (although I haven't seen any published guides) or you could manually add a Text Block to each of these pages and paste in the required links.

School Year Calendar...appears to be broken. The navigation is not showing at all.

As this page doesn't have a banner image, the white navigation text is shown on a white background.

I hope this helps.

It does thank you! Once I've had a chance to implement/attempt these items, I'll follow up. Appreciate the help.

Following up here.

Your first suggestion, I have the fix, however we're going to have to upgrade the site in order to make that change.

The second item, as you mentioned was removed from the theme. Since you cannot change themes, likely going to forgo this until I can setup a solution.

For the other item, the calendar page, it's not allowing me to add a banner image for some reason. Going to try and duplicate another page and add it back.

On Squarespace 7.1, there isn't a 'banner image' concept like in 7.0. Your 'banner images' will have been converted into new Page Sections with a Background Image.

You can manually add a Page Section above other page content and then click Edit Section to add a Background Image.

Another question for you. On the blog, I noticed the same issue. I attempted to follow those same steps for the blog, however I'm not getting the option to add or edit the section on the blog to add that image back.

Any insights as to how to update it there?

The blog front page is fine, it's when you go to the blog articles is when I'm not seeing it.

Blog: Red Bridge ECC Blog — Red Bridge ECC

Example article where I'm unable to add the header image: ECC Participates in the MO-SECA Program — Red Bridge ECC

Thoughts around how to resolve?
