What is "Confirmation Code {Confirmation Code}" in order confirmed emails?

A seemingly random confirmation code is included in customer order confirmed emails. I haven't figured out where to find that code for a confirmed order. And can I remove it out of the template?

I happened to find it by dumb luck. That confirmation code is used if the customer doesn't have an account but wants to see the order details.
