Auto Redirect deleted product links to main shop page?

Is it possible to create a rule that will redirect any 404 product pages back to the main shop page?

My clients sells second hand goods so every product is a one off. It won't be practical or sustainable to create 301 redirects for every single item she sells.

Thanks @creedon I read the Support Doc on URL Mappings. When it repeatedly said using the [name] variable would "redirect all items"  – and never specified deleted / disabled items – I thought it was a blanket rule that overrode inactive link redirection to actually redirect ALL items.

I see this was a mistake now and the [name] variable works as you suggested. Thank you for clarifying this issue. 😊

Understandable. SS could enhance their doc to hammer home that redirects only work for pages that do not exist. Some more examples with some scenarios would also be useful.

Maybe Sarah or Taylor could pass this on to the support docs folk?
