I have our business website running on a Squarespace Personal plan.

We'd like to add a commerce section that allows us to list 12-15 or so products for rent. We'd like to show a calendar with availability of the item, book any extra services, meet an order $ minimum amount and collect a 50% deposit to secure booking and ability to charge remaining 50% at a future date. We want it to be as automated as possible so customers can find available products, book and pay up front with an email confirmation of the booking details.

I am considering booqable but looking for other options to compare features/pricing. If I go with booqable, do I need to upgrade Squarespace to a commerce plan or can I leave it as Personal considering booqable will be hosting the products and completing payments?

Thanks.

You need to upgrade because Personal plan does not allow custom code injection which is required by booqable to insert the catalog

Any alternatives to booqable? I’ve considered linking out to a standalone rental store but prefer to keep within the square space site if possible.

This a deliberate limitation of Personal Plan, not Booqable. You'll experience the issue with any code, for any service, on this plan.

This is because the lower-cost Personal Plan is priced for personal use and not business use. Squarespace deliberately block code that a business may want. If you want to add code to Squarespace you can upgrade to the Business Plan or, as you suggested, use a standalone third party site for this element (for example, using a subdomain for the Booqable element).

It is sometimes possible to workaround this Personal Plan limitation by adding code intended for Code Injection into a Markdown Block in your site's footer, but this is an unintended loophole that Squarespace could plug at any time. As I don't recommend this approach to clients, I don't have access to any sites on a personal plan where I can test it.

Thanks @paul2009

If I go down to an MVP solution while keeping the Personal Plan, is there a solution that allows me to:

a) list 8-10 products with an image, title and brief description

b) clicking on the product, open up details such as rental price, etc.

c) add the item to a "cart"

d) checkout that simply sends an inquiry via email to me, no payment processing or calendar scheduling required.

I suspect I can accomplish the product and detail page with an image or portfolio section. Is this simple cart / checkout flow with email enquiry possible through the Personal Plan?
