Error Message: "Unable to submit form. Please try again later."

Recommended Posts

A couple of potential clients just informed me that the form submission/contact option on my site was giving errors. It works sometimes and then it has errors another time.

I deduced that it was due to visiting the website via Instagram's mobile app. When visiting my website from within the Instagram app, my website loads just fine but when attempting to submit a contact form, an error pops up.

When I visit my website in a separate browser whether it's on a desktop or on a mobile app like Chrome or Safari, it works just fine.

I also tried visiting my other website in the Instagram app and tried the contact page and it worked.

The only difference is that my other website is on template 7.0 and the website that's having issue is on 7.1.

I haven't changed anything to the coding whatsoever so I think that 7.1 is having issues accepting contact submissions when the site is being visited from within the Instagram mobile app on a consistent basis. It works sometimes and it gives errors another time.

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, I don't think that's the issue or if it is, it's not the same error message anyway.

I've been informed that my potential clients are simply receiving this message.
"Unable to submit form. Please try again later."

Also Instagram's built-in browser seems to have no issues with the contact submission on my older website on the 7.0 platform. It's just having issues with my 7.1 website which everything is on default as I don't touch the coding at all.

Agreed. I was just pointing out that the Instagram in-app browser isn't ideal, and you may want to encourage visitors to use a standards-based browser 🙂

This exact thing is happening to me too! Any update on how to fix it?

Hi there, both my clients and I have come across the following error message when trying to submit enquiry forms: "Unable to submit form. Please try again later."
Sometimes the forms work as expected, and sometimes they don't.
The issue might be linked with the file upload field in contact forms, as if you leave that empty the form usually goes through.

Has anyone else found this issue? Have you found a solution?

Same problem https://fractionx.com/virtual-executive-roundtable-registration

HELP. We are having prospective clients complain about not registering for our events!

Our entire team has tried to reproduce this from multiple browsers & locations - personal and professional accounts - we have tested the link from within LinkedIN and all of us at our company can't repeat the issue...but our CUSTOMERS are getting the error.

Okay, I just was able to replicate the error. Firefox in a private browsing session and the one thing I noticed is that when I loaded the form, it had the 3 separate boxes for phone. I got the error, but it went away quickly. When I reloaded the form, in the SAME browser, I got one contiguous box:

When I filled out the form again, with the SAME user information, the form worked.

What is causing the Phone field to show 3 boxes when I load it first and then one contiguous box (after error) when I load it again?

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFED!

Sorry for the multiple messages. I found the issue on our page at least. If someone DOES NOT accept the cookie policy or denies the cookie policy, you get the error message. If a user accepts the cookie policy, the form submits fine.

Try it on your site....

1. Open a new private window browser.
2. Make sure you get the Cookie Banner
3. DO NOT ACCEPT the cookie policy.
4. Go to the registration form.
5. Check and see if the phone number box has 3 boxes (as opposed to 1 box)...if you are collecting phone numbers
6. DO NOT ACCEPT the cookies AND fill out the form.
7. See if you get the error.
8. Reload the form.
9. Accept the cookies.
10. Check if the phone number box is now a single form field.
11. Submit the SAME information.
12. Form will work.

Thank you for the updates! Wish Squarespace would respond...

I don't have a cookie banner on my site & customers still got the error.

FIXED!

We were using termly.io for our cookie policy and using Code Injection in the header to insert Termly.io Javascript for the cookie policy. When we removed the termly.io Code Injection Cookie Policy and enabled the default SquareSpace cookie policy, the forms worked regardless of cookie policy state - if you accepted, managed, or took no option.

@serific check code injection into your headers. For us, it was the Cookie Policy from termly.io. Not sure if it was the cookie policy or the code injection.

Thanks Brian! I was afraid it might be code-injection related. I have code for a special shopping cart in my headers & have no idea how to troubleshoot that -- and I'm too nervous about breaking that to mess with it on my launch day! But good to know that I can look there when I have more time. Appreciate it!

I'm having this issue and don't have any third party cookie policy. The forms won't submit if someone clicks my site from instagram which is unfortunate because most of my clients come thru instagram. Any suggestions? Thank you!

@venus_house sorry I can't help here as I know others started this thread complaining about Instagram. However, you could still check to see if you are using code injection in the header, footer, or anywhere else on the contact form. You could potentially rule out code injection if you were able to delete it (or comment it out) and then test.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, you can't solve issue with the Instagram browser. For this reason, I try to direct the Instagram users to load a "proper" browser that they can use all the features on your site.
