Images for mobile devices being cropped rather than resized

Hi

The images i have applied in a laptop mode are not being re-sized in Mobile aspects, instead they are being horrendously cropped so the image is essentially ruined

i cannot see any options to amend this in the image edit mode 

what am i missing?
