AndrewExplainer Posted August 23 Posted August 23 This relates to captions on images in blog posts. Until recently we could centre the caption text and assign a specific text format (paragraph, heading etc). We've been working through updating several hundred old posts, imported from Blogger. We've taken a break for a few weeks (holidays). Today we discovered the options for captions in blogs have suddenly become more limited. Does anyone know if this is a permanent change or a bug that will be fixed? misterfilmguy 1 Free online training for small business owners@AndrewExplainer
misterfilmguy Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I'm also running into this and would love to have the previously available functionality back. For me, being able to make the captions smaller and aligned to the right helps keep our blog posts cleaner and easier to read. AndrewExplainer 1
JMJATX Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) I am having this issue too. I didn't even use the caption feature on images but now any text I have below the image is being reformatted as caption text in p2 when I prefer p3 for captions to keep it cleaner. Squarespace needs to either let you set your caption preferences or default to no caption for images to avoid this from happening. It just started for me in the last week. qpost6 Posted August 29 Posted August 29 This is happening to me too so I just contacted support - they told me it wasn't a known bug or an intentional change and elevated the request to development. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, I'll keep everyone updated. 12mackenzie and AndrewExplainer 1 1
fiskfisk Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Hi! This has bothered me too, so i found a code in another thread here that at least changes the size of the caption so it differences from the body (we use paragrafh 2 in body text....). But after the update that took away the possibility to change caption, we have met another issue - sometimes (often but not always) when we add a picture to a blog post, and then start to type in caption, the picture turns blank/white. And to get it back you either have to save, exit and go back or you have to remove and re-add the picture. It is so so so annoying when it happens, especially when it happens repeatedly... I have contacted squarespace but they say it has to be something wrong with our code, not an error related to the update, even though this never happened before the update. And i can´t find the error in our code (yes, i´ve taken out the one that changes the size of the caption ^, and i´ve tried it in safe mode). Is there anyone else experiencing this? FilmReviewDaily 1
qpost6 Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Squarespace support told me this change is permanent and not a bug, and recomends just using text blocks instead
AndrewExplainer Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 (edited) My takeaway from the replies to my initial query is that captions can no longer be centred. Whether the change was deliberate or an unintended consequence of other actions, it seems to be permanent. At least, as permanent as anything is in the world of code. Which means it will undoubtedly change again but we don't know when😁 Edited September 9 by AndrewExplainer Free online training for small business owners@AndrewExplainer

And when they get feedback that shows that this is not working out for people, why can´t they change it back?
