rick-ce
We have our domain hosted with Squarespace and are trying to move our site's Primary domain to a subdomain of our Squarespace hosted domain. We can't find a way to change the Primary domain as no where is a dropdown available? Here is the summary of what our issue is. We had a free Squarespace website We purchased a domain name through your domain services (i.e., ourdomain.com) We bought a plan for the free website and made ourdomain.com the Primary domain for it We decided we would like the now paid for website to be at a subdomain of ourdomain.com instead (i.e., subdomain.ourdomain.com) We followed https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205812058-Creating-a-subdomain-for-your-Squarespace-site and were never able to see a drop-down to change the Primary domain to the new subdomain. derricksrandomviews
If your subdomain is not in your domain dropdown menu I suggest you start from the beginning and make sure it has been created properly. Create a Squarespace subdomain, forwarding rules, and making a sub domain primary. Link to comment
rick-ce
Hi @derricksrandomviews. Thanks but I have wiped and followed the directions to a T about 5 times. Still no dropdown. Any other ideas? Regards! Link to comment
derricksrandomviews
I just created a subdomain, and I didn't find a dropdown either. This requires a bit more experimentation. Edited August 20 by derricksrandomviews Link to comment

prukop
Follow "Point a subdomain to a different Squarespace site" from https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/215744668-Pointing-a-Squarespace-domain. Basically: Add a CNAME custom record for the subdomain to the root domain Connect the subdomain (e.g. subdomain.root.com) to your site You'll get a special code in the DNS settings page that shows after connecting with an "expected data" value of verify.squarespace.com (or similar). Create another CNAME record back on the root domain DNS settings with the code as the Host. Alias to the expected data, verify.squarespace.com. Disable the www prefix on the site, else you'll have another record that needs verification Link to comment
