How to make portfolio carousel images and text clickable, without having a button below

Having used the inbuilt portfolio section, in a carousel format, I cannot add click through ability to the images and titles below them, only option is to add a button below, which I have done with correct links attached, but I do not like this look. What code can i inject to make the button transparent perhaps and covering each correlating area of each image.

You can do this with certain list sections, but typically not the carousel because this has swipe-functionality:
