Changing Website Design without Changes Going Live?

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of rebranding and as such, need to update the overall look of my website.

Is there a way to work on this in the back end without it going live to the public until it is finished and if so, what would be the process?

Thanks

Squarespace updates are always live, as soon as you save the changes that you've made they will be live on the website. There isn't a way to pause the updates to design and content and then publish. (this used to be possible if you changed template, but that's only on the old version of Squarespace).

You could add a site wide password and hide the website whilst you make the changes.

Alternatively, you could duplicate the website and update the design and content in that new website, then move the domain to the new website to make the new design live. This comes with downsides if you reply on Squarespace analytics or store setup (and a few other things), as these will not transfer across, so you would have to consider all of the downsides before doing this.
