How do I add different header images to each category page?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’ve trawled the forum for answers but not sure if what I’ve read applies to my needs. So putting it out there in basic form in the hopes someone can help!

Firstly, I wish to keep the main navigational header that appears on every page. I don’t need this to change.

However, I want to add a large image under that header to each of my categories with a little text, that summarises visually what each category contains. I want different images and text for each category page.

It would be great if anyone could help!

@ahooray HI! You can add sections for each category page with the images and text like you mentioned. By default, these sections will appear on every category page. But with some custom code, we can make it so only one specific section shows up on each category page, hiding the rest. So, if you have five categories for instance, you'll need to create five sections, one for each category. After that, I can write and share the custom code to ensure only the right section is visible on each category page.

@Lesum That sounds great! Everytime I attempt to find a way to create this I always come across Creedon’s ‘Store page list category section reveal’ code and without fully understanding it I wasn’t sure if it was going to be the solution to my problem so was reluctant to attempt.

So, what do I have to do first? I really appreciate your help! I’ve been going round in circles trying to sort!

@ahooray First, go to your shop page and create as many sections (with images and text) as you have categories on your site. Once you’ve set up those sections, let me know so I can write and share the custom code here. Thanks!

My code probably does what you want. It uses sections to contain the category headers. Then reveals the appropriate section when you go to a category. Many people have used it successfully.

Hello @Lesum

I'm having the same issue here. I'm trying to have a different banner/section for each product category.

I tried the 'Store Page List Category Section Reveal' process but it doesn't seem to work (https://github.com/tomsWebConsulting/twcsl/tree/main/v7.1/Page/Store/List/Store Page List Category Section Reveal#store-page-list-category-section-reveal

In another thread @tuanphan has suggested the solution of creating new page for each category, and then use Summary Block to pull products from product category, seems more rational to me.

But then I can not style the Summary Block section the same as my main shop which spans full width on 3 columns with very big minimal product images.

Also in Summary Block the maximum number of items is 30.

In the main shop page, I already created two different sections with banners corresponding to two different categories. Currently I am still trying to make the 'Store Page List Category Section Reveal' process work, so you will find some mess and also I am working on it round the clock before I'll move back to Wordpress, to be honest.

Which solution would you suggest?

Unfortunately I'm  realising that there's no way to set up a truly professional e-commerce in Squarespace. I'm trying my best but I'll be forced to move back to Wordpress from where I'm coming from with this client of mine.

- Additional Info block must be created all over again and again for each and every product

- there's no a 'filter by' function unless paying 74$  for a third party plug-in

This is truly unbelievable for the price we're paying monthly.

Dear @creedon

I've repeated the same process all over again but it is not working.

Would you be so nice to take a look at it?

In the shop I have 4 categories (necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets)

This is the shop page: www.luciaodescalchi.it/shop

I've already added 2 of the 4 banners that should hypothetically been associated with each of the 4 categories.

When I go to Earrings, I should see the earrings banner only.

But no banner show up.

While in shop none of them is hidden.

Many thanks for your help!

Adriana
