AprilBoughton
I have recently built a new website using Squarespace and am trying to connect my Squarespace domain to the new Squarespace website. I had connected them and it was showing as connected in the dashboard however when I search the URL it shows the old website hosting. It has been over 72 hours. Please help! 🙂 Link to comment
Solution derricksrandomviews Posted August 5 Solution Share Posted August 5 Your domain is registered with Squarespace and sitting on a Google Server. It is still pointed to Fastly web hosting. Since it has been over 72 hours, I suggest you copy any MX records and any others you need and paste them into Wordpad, to save them. Then disconnect your domain and reconnect using "domain that I own" in the domain settings for your website. If the config program loads the default DNS correctly, your site should activate and load up quickly. AprilBoughton 1 Link to comment
AprilBoughton
Thank you for this. Will I need to remove any of the current records? Link to comment
derricksrandomviews
Yes, all of them, if disconnecting the domain doesn't do it for you. You are starting from scratch as if it were a new site and new domain, that is all Squarespace says to do if a Squarespace domain is pointed to a third-party site and you want to add it to a Squarespace site. This issue has happened to a number of users here, many Google merged domains in limbo so to speak, and this looks to be the best way to fix that. If your domain is hosted by Squarespace, you can add it to a new or existing Squarespace site in your Domains panel AprilBoughton 1 Link to comment
AprilBoughton
Thank you so much. That appears to have so far worked. Really appreciate your help! derricksrandomviews 1 Link to comment
perfectlook
Thank you very much @derricksrandomviews. I think i have a similar issue, though i get some weird error that April didn't have. I have a website that runs on Google Site CMS. The domain I use there is from Squarespace. I then created a Squarespace site and decided to link the domain to the new site, but i got this error: When i do what is mentioned in this error, i get another one: 72h haven't passed yet. But this error seems alarming. Do you know how to fix that? Or should i just wait? It is worth mentioning that my DNS settings are still related to the Google Site CMS and it can still be reached via the domain. Should I go ahead an disconnect it already or will it be disconnected automatically by Squarespace? It is strange that the official guides don't mention anything about this. Â Link to comment
derricksrandomviews
Let me get your info straight. Is your website on Google Cloud Services? The domain is or should be with Squarespace? What is your domain? I can check on it for you.  Link to comment
perfectlook
Thank you for replying so quickly. My old website, that still can be accessed, usese my Squarespace domain (previously Google Domains) https://www.perfectlook-kosmetik-nagel.com/ I then created my new website on Squarespace and decided to assign this domain to it. But unfortunately, I keep getting those errors from above. Please let me know if you require any extra information. Link to comment
derricksrandomviews
Your domain points to a Google website. Is that domain in the same account as your new Squarespace website? Now that the domain has been moved to Squarespace, the domain needs to be treated like moving between Squarespace sites, including permissions. Read this guide to make sure the billing eligibility is met then disconnect the domain from the Google site and Connect it to the new one using the "domain that I own" option. Edited September 24 by derricksrandomviews Link to comment
perfectlook
Hello @derricksrandomviews thank you. Here are the answers to your questions, Quote "Is that domain in the same account as your new Squarespace website?" Yes, it is. Quote Now that the domain has been moved to Squarespace, the domain needs to be treated like moving between Squarespace sites, including permissions. Could you please elaborate on the permissions? How can i check which permissions does my domain have? Could you please reshare the guide you were referring to? 12 hours ago, derricksrandomviews said: Connect it to the new one using the "domain that I own" option. I have already done, this, and my new website confirms that this is the case: Yet the error persists. derricksrandomviews
Some of your DNS records point to Squarespace but the WWW records still point to the Google site as you can see here when you hit lookup DNS: https://dnschecker.org/all-dns-records-of-domain.php?query=www.perfectlook-kosmetik-nagel.com%2F&rtype=ALL&dns=google If you access your DNS records in site configuration you should see the CNAME pointing to Google. Edited September 25 by derricksrandomviews Link to comment
perfectlook
I see now. So, what would be the correct order of actions? What do you think of this one? Â Remove the DNS records from Squarespace Try to add the default once Unlink from Google CMS Wait for the system to connect the domain with the new Squarespace site that has already been linked to the domain Link to comment
derricksrandomviews
That's it, deleting the DNS records will disconnect the domain from Google CMS. The default records should connect to your Squarespace site. When that happens the Squarespace site should come up right away. From a marketing standpoint, I suggest purchasing an additional domain from Squarespace to point to your Squarespace site, perfectlookcosmetic.com is available for twenty dollars a year, fourteen for the first year. Very easy to remember. Both domains will work simultaneously, and perfectlookcosmetic.com would be the best prime domain for your site. Edited September 25 by derricksrandomviews Link to comment
perfectlook
Thank you for your advice. I will consider doing this. As suggested, i removed the DNS records from my Squarespace domain: But i can't seem to be able to get the default setting now. I keep getting these errors: I tried contacting the support, but the chat bot doesn't allow me to get through. It keeps redirecting me to articles that don't offer a solution this problem. Have you seen this error before? Link to comment
perfectlook
Hello @derricksrandomviews, i just would like to share with you that once Squarespace dashboard stopped showing my old websites snippet, i was able to add the default DNS settings. Now, I am only waiting for the SSL certificate. Thank you very much for your help and advice. derricksrandomviews 1 Link to comment
