MichellesWebCollective
Hello everyone! I just completed my first site for my first client and I am looking for feedback! I have made many websites in the past but for myself and my husband only. This was my first client. I will say I had to do pretty much all of the heavy lifting myself as I had nearly no input from the client on what he wanted besides matching the colors of his logo and a really short list of services. He already purchased this domain years ago and wanted to keep his two businesses together on one site. I did have my husband go take some professional photos (he's a photographer) because most of what was supplied to me was NOT good quality and I am very picky for obvious reasons. Thank you for taking the time to give me feedback! I wrote all the copy myself. ย website is www.elitehomeandrental.com Link to comment
JessicaM
Hey @MichellesWebCollective! I think you've done a pretty good job overall. The pictures are nice. Here's just a few things that caught my eye - - The buttons stick out to me... I think adding a little spacing between the letters will help. Also, some buttons have the first letter of every word capitalized ("Contact Us"), but then other buttons just have the first letter of the first word capitalized ("Book a vacation"). The Contact Us button looks a little wimpy compared to the other buttons on the page. - The empty space next to the button in the header looks a little...empty. I'd either add social media icons there, or move the logo to the left and put the navigation links on the right with the button. - I like the heading font you used....and using italics for some words helps to call attention to them. - I'm not sure the text in the first two sections explains quickly enough what the company does. I would guess based on words like "enhance" and "with your unique style" that it's an interior decorating company. But based on the logo I'm guessing it's more along the lines of construction. - The icons jumped out at me right away because the blue is different than the buttons. I think having white icons instead of black against the blue in the button would help to stick with the branding. Using that button blue color would also help compliment the teal in the pictures here (nice pics!). (just noticed it says "renovations" here... I would use that word earlier on the page!) - I'm on the "need to recharge" section... and now I'm confused, lol. Is this an AirBNB? I thought it was renovations... There needs to be some extra space under the "explore" sentence so that it matches the spacing at the top of the section. - I've never seen a form asking for reviews before... seems like that would be an email to previous clients asking for a review. Whether you keep it or not, I would put the "get a free consultation" form above this one, because that's the form you actually want people to fill out. - Hyperlink the phone and email in the footer. I would also put the links in the footer and the logo. - I just saw on the "book your stay" page that they were featured in HGTV... That should be on the home page! - You may want to use Will Meyer's plugin for the before/after images...it's a sleek way to show before and afters. https://www.will-myers.com/products/p/before-/-after-image-slider Overall, I would adjust the spacing in some of the areas, and be super clear on what the company does and what problem they're solving for the client... because right now I'm still not sure! ๐ Let me know if you have questions about anything ๐ MichellesWebCollective 1 Jessica Miller | Squarespace Website Designer https://www.jessicamiller.work jessica@jessicamiller.work Search the blog and get Squarespace tips to your inbox https://www.jessicamiller.work/blog Want to pick my brain or get help? I agree with everything you said. Ideally, I would have loved for his airbnb house and renovation business to be separate websites because to me it doesnt make sense to mix the two. But his logo hes already had for years now states renovation and vacation rental and he wanted both on his site so i tried my best to "blend" the two. I will checkout this plugin for sure because im not crazy about the portfolio page. As for the reviews, he wanted a form for clients to submit them, I suggested creating a google business profile for that instead but he wanted it this way. I like your idea of switching the forms, that makes way better sense. Thank you so much for taking the time to explore the site and give great feedback! I really appreciate it!
