Prevent image compression on photography site?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi all,

I'm considering using Squarespace to display my photography, but it appears some of my images are getting compressed. I'm currently using a portfolio page with a 2 column layout. There are a few photos that keep appearing blurry, although they were tack sharp at even larger sizes on my Adobe Portfolio site. I tried importing smaller image sizes (down to 510kB) but this did not solve the problem. Has anyone found a way to stop this from occurring?

Thanks

-R

Squarespace does a compression pass on image files when you upload your images. There is no settings in a site to turn this off. Compression is never perfect and some images can have unsatisfactory results after the compression pass. Sometimes you can fiddle with the file you are uploading to get a better results.

There is no exact formula to this fiddling and no guarantee of success.

Please see Formatting your images for display on the web. It has some general tips that may help.
