Sub-domain www homepage only doesn't redirect to naked root domain home

Hoping someone can help me here.

I thought this was a DNS issue as we are having troubles with our squarespace-managed domain getting the non-primary www address to map to the naked/root domain... but now I am not so sure it's a pure DNS issue.

The primary domain all works fine. So all these pages show as intended.

• https://sportypaws.com.au - homepage
• https://sportypaws.com.au/ - homepage
• https://sportypaws.com.au/home - homepage
• https://sportypaws.com.au/team - content page

And if we look at the www sub-domain, everything works as intended as long as we have a page/slug.
So these work:
https://www.sportypaws.com.au/home (redirects correctly to https://sportypaws.com.au/home)
https://www.sportypaws.com.au/team (redirects correctly to https://sportypaws.com.au/team)

But these don't:
https://www.sportypaws.com.au/ (goes to the under construction page)
https://www.sportypaws.com.au (goes to the under construction page)

If this was a DNS issue, I would assume that no address should work with the www address... so is this a configuration issue?
Any idea how I get this to work?
