ADVANCED: Global Content without Enterprise

Creating a site with a real estate development map.

  • The map changes a few times a week.
  • The same map is shown on around 10 pages and posts on the site. Updating each one is time consuming.
  • Client isn't going to pay for Enterprise level for the global content feature.

The best solution I can think of to have one instance of the map update everywhere is...

  1. Make a new blog post with a unique category like "map."
  2. Make the featured image thumbnail the current map.
  3. On all the pages and posts add a Summary Block with just the category "map."

This way when I get a map update I just update the featured image thumbnail.

The thing I don't like is the Summary Block is clickable. Is there a way around this?

I also tried just using img src in a Code Block and swapping out images in the Assets Library, but I think those image URLs are dynamic because just trying to overwrite the old image with the same file name did not show an updated image. Could be caching too which I can't rely on the client or audience to clear their cache.

If anyone else has a better solution I'd LOVE to hear it.

Thanks!

Have you try to disable click on Summary block by using `pointer-events:none`

SUPER FREAKY AMAZING. Didn't even think of that. Now I can have a global image I update in one place instead of 10!

I'll have to figure out a way to discourage inner site search from finding this map post as I don't want to update both a thumbnail and a map image in the post body. If you know of a way to do that you'll be my hero twice today.

THANKS!!!

The only way to exclude page from site search is setting password protected, but I dont think it will show up collection selector

I can suggest you to use existing gallery feature of my plugin Classic gallery block, which enable the gallery block for 7.1 website.

Ps: I think these issue can be solved easier if the image can be replaced and keeping the name in the asset library, no there is no option so far

Another idea just pop in my mind: you can insert the image block into website Footer, it will be available globally (on the pages that support footer), then you can use javascript to copy it into place where you want

Tried replacing the image in the asset library with same filename upload, but the URLs seem to be dynamic or different and the image block retains the link to the old one.

Thought about the footer, but the image content is better suited for visitors elsewhere on the page and being in the footer would muddy up the contact form call to action I DID put in the footer to be global. Great minds think alike!

Thanks.
