Make my site like the example provided

This is my website.

Essentially, I'm trying to make my website like this site. That means making images/gifs appear/disappear when you hover over a link.

I tried this guide provided by Tuanphan but I couldn't figure it out. 

Could someone help me do that? Open to anything

You can follow this new guide (instead placing image behind text, you can drag image to right of text.

If you still can't make it work, you can share link to page where you added text/image, I will check & give exact code for your site.
