Samuel
I've seen multiple blogs and forum posts that warn against migrating a duplicate of a 7.0 website to 7.1, rather than migrating the original. Most suggest duplicating the site as a backup or as a testing zone but then migrating the original. Aside from the duplication limit of 100 pages and the brief downtime due to transferring the domain over to the duplicate when the new 7.1 site is ready, can anyone outline the list of reasons why one should NOT migrate the duplicate instead of the original? melody495
Others may be able to share a list, but the first thing I check is what functionality and content is in a site. Duplicating a site copies some things over, and not others. For the details of what is and isn't copied over, please see Squarespace 's documentation. https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039396131-Duplicating-a-site paul2009 1 -------- > 👆 <---------- Please quote or @ me when replying, or I won't get a notification Melody | Squarespace Nerd 💻 💁♀️ 1-2-1 Squarespace Training session <- feeling stuck and want to learn? 👩💻 💁♀️ Website help <- send me your to-do list. This is because the duplicate site will not contain any of your original site's data. For example, files that you've uploaded (using the Link Editor) won't be included on the duplicate site, so would need to be uploaded one-by-one. The duplicate also won't include any analytics, billing history, contributors, email campaigns or stock images. You'll also be missing all the commerce data, like orders, discounts and subscriptions. Collaborada
In addition to above, a duplicated site isn’t an exact copy. All URLs in collections change (blogs, galleries, products, etc). Also if you have pages that make use of the “Page Title” field, this field reverts to the Navigation title. Building high-performance websites with expert SEO for local and national reach.
