csgersbeck
I'm interested in going all-in on Squarespace's unlimited video storage for all of my website's content, but the only thing holding me back is Squarespace's video player. It's a great speedy and reliable player but it's missing several features that could greatly benefit the user experience. The main feature missing is the ability to AirPlay or Cast the videos. This feature is a dealbreaker for many of my customers because they would much rather watch content on their TV's rather than their laptops or phones. We've resorted to urging customers to invest in an HDMI cable, but this is obviously a huge hurdle for the average viewer. Another feature is the ability to upload and display captions. This is imperative not only for accessibility but also because a lot of viewers use captions whether or not they actually need them to enjoy the video. I would also love to be able to add chapter markers to videos. Any idea if these features are being worked on or a timeline on when we can expect an update on the video player? We are sitting on gold with growing our membership programs, but these missing features are holding us back. Would love to see some updates before year end. Thank you! Link to comment
csgersbeck
I guess I'm alone in customers really wanting the ability to AirPlay or cast. Does anyone know if there's code we could add to our website so that all the videos hosted on Squarespace are castable? When I try to just screen mirror from my iPhone, the video gets blocked on my Mac (see below) and my FireTV gives me an error that it can't play a DRM file. Perhaps there's a way to stop Squarespace from blocking videos hosted on their site from being castable? Here's my website: https://dumb-industries.com Link to comment
csgersbeck
I can't possibly be the only person who wants the ability to cast Squarespace videos! Casting and AirPlay technology have both been around for over 10 years at this point. Link to comment
csgersbeck
Quite certain that if Squarespace just lifted DRM restrictions from videos hosted on Squarespace, customers would be able to mirror their device's screen to streaming devices like Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, etc. without the need for Squarespace's video player to offer casting. Does anyone know if there's a way to open up DRM restrictions using code? Link to comment
