7.0 to 7.1 update font headache (though custom code removed)

Hello,

I am updating a 7.0 client website to 7.1. Currently I am in preview mode with it.

In the 7.1 preview, I stripped out:

  • ALL my CSS (there was a lot)
  • The one piece of site-wide header code I had;

Then I saved those changes. So no more CSS or header code customization.

I went into the Styles palette and selected a sans-serif paragraph font 'Adelle-Sans', and saved that. Prior to that I had been using Merriweather.

YET in 7.1 preview, the paragraph font continues to display like a Times Roman/generic serif font. I have never used that font on this website. I cleared my cache, and still that font displays.

I really need to move this forward to where I can make the site 'live'. Getting this font issue fixed is primary to that. I just don’t understand why this would be happening.

I contacted Squarespace Help, and they were not particularly helpful. The only thing they offered was that there must be some code still in place. There is not. I did the site so I know what the customizations were.

Can anyone offer any thoughts on what might be going on?

Thank you!

Hmmm rather difficult to help with whatever might be going on when in preview mode, as you can't share what's going on. Have you tried duplicating the website and then going fully through the upgrade to 7.1 process on that duplicate website, see what happens?

Please like and upvote if my comments were helpful to you. Cheers!

Hi Ziggy,

Thank you so much for your reply. I had duplicated the site, as a sort of back-up but had not gone through the 7.1 upgrade.

It would have been waste of time, as it turned out.

I was able to solve this. For anyone else who might have this issue...

It turned out that Adelle Sans, the font I wanted to use for the body tag (or in SQSP world 'paragraph') while selectable/saveable in the Font style interface, was not really actually available once I left the 'EDIT' interface. Guess it’s not part of SQSP fonts catalogue...? This was true when I tried it in the 7.0 site version too.

Adelle Sans is an Adobe font so because I use the Adobe Creative Cloud, I just created a 'Web Project' there in my account, adding the Adelle Sans font selections that I wanted (there are a TON of versions but it’s important to only add what you really need). Grabbed the stylesheet link from there, added it in Code Injection (sitewide), hit SAVE.  Boom. No more default serif font.

A big relief that particular snafu is over! I am sure there will be others since I used quite a bit of custom CSS and a bit of Javascript in the 7.0 site. Wish me luck 🙂

Again, thanks for your response, Ziggy.

Christina
