setting up a store with staggard tuition pricing

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm trying to set up a Squarespace website and store allowing our customers (both single payee and multiple membership payee) to attend jiu jitsu classes.  So, the way it is supposed to be set up is as follows:
Each athlete must purchase a membership at $100.  This pays for the school's Gi and Belt.
Tuition starts at $85 per month for the single payee or $85 for the first member of a family/multiple membership group rate.
Tuition is then staggered for the family or multi-person membership rate.  Tuition for second person costs $65 and tuition for third person cost $50.  Tuition then remains at $50 for each additional person.
So, for a family of 4 with a mom and three kids, the membership and tuition costs would breakdown like this:
Membership is $100 x 4 people = $400 (onetime cost for four Gis and belt and administrative).
Tuition (on a monthly basis) is $85 (mom/first person) + $65 (kid/second person) + $50 (kid/third person) + $50 (kid/fourth person) = $250/month
Initial cost is totaled at $650, and thereafter, at $250/month for the family to attend classes.
I'm considering separating memberships for tuition costs, but how do I begin staggering the tuition costs within the squarespace framework?

Unfortunately, there isn't a straightforward way to do this on Squarespace at the moment because subscription 'products' have not been designed to meet this requirement yet. You could create subscription products for these individually, but there will be a number of 'user experience' issues that will make it difficult for potential customers to purchase combinations of memberships and/or tuition.

For example, as it stands today, customers:

  • Cannot purchase a a subscription with a different initial payment (to cover the 'membership')
  • Cannot purchase a non-subscription product (the 'membership') at the same time as the subscription product (the 'tuition').
  • Cannot purchase more than one subscription in a single transaction.

I've been advocating for these features for some time and I'm hoping they'll be available in the future. In the meantime you may want to look at embedding a third party solution that specialises in payments for sports clubs. You didn't say where you are based, but there are a number of platforms in different countries.
