frankm305
Please help. I created my first page ever, and first page on Squarespace. Google Console says my home page has an Alternate page with proper canonical tag. In the help of Square space it has the statement below. I need help with the last sentence, "we ask Google to only index the first URL." Who is we? Squarespace has not done it because I get the error in the Search Console. What do I do? Alternate page with proper canonical tag Google may display this error for your homepage URL, but you don't need to make any changes on your site. This error displays because your site's homepage has two URLs (example.com and example.com/home). To avoid duplication, we ask Google to only index the first URL (example.com). Link to comment

The error is there because the page and URL still exist and Google Search Console is just telling you that and that the /homepage is being redirected, correctly. karimck67
I am having a similar issue but my URL canonical is my 404 page!!! <link rel="canonical" href="https://www.karidamato.com/404"/> Obviously, I do not want that and want to redirect to my actual homepage. I have inserted a redirect: /404 -> / 301 Nothing is working and my homepage cannot be indexed. Please help! Link to comment
