Joelme123
On Google, I setup a domain (resourcescourse.com) to forward to a specific url (https://resourcescourse.thinkific.com/courses/rc) -- but my domain was transferred to SQSP. How do I setup forwarding here? I know little about this, so please give me the exact steps! Link to comment
DecaturishDan
I have been forced to use Squarespace now that Google Domains sold to Squarespace. Domain forwarding under Google Domains was very easy. You simply told them where you wanted to redirect and it did that for you. I get the following message for every redirect I try Not a valid subdomain To forward your root domain, enter @ as the subdomain. This will delete any Squarespace default records if you have them. I'm trying to get these things to redirect to my website, Decaturish.com or other pages within that. This message from Squarespace is useless and doesn't tell me how to fix this problem. Squarespace support is seemingly nonexistent. I'm about to transfer all of my domains to another service if Squarespace doesn't start providing some basic customer support. Here's a screenshot of my issue. C2G 1 Link to comment
SNCGuru
I originally registered my domain, https://snc.guru, with Google Domains. I was happy with Google Domains, and I DEEPLY hate Squarespace for buying them and forcing me over to the "SS". However, far worse than having to use the truly-awful SS site to manage my domain, suddenly, yesterday - well after the GDomains transfer - all of my subdomain forwards have disappeared / stopped working. This happened shortly after I added a new subdomain forward, but I sure as hell didn't remove any of the 150+ other subdomain forwards that I had, all of which appear to have been brought in as CNAME records but no longer show up as "Domain Forwarding Rules" in the Website section of the panel wherein I manage my domain. I had a LOT of subdomains (like, for example, gr.snc.guru, handbook.snc.guru, admin.snc.guru, feynman.snc.guru, etc.) - I even have one on my business cards. I also have (had) the domain itself forwarded to another website, (snprotips.com). Now, all of my subdomains and the snc.guru domain itself, redirect to a Squarespace page that says "We're under construction. Please check back for an update soon." This is actively costing me money. I have tried calling the Squarespace support phone number, but - oh, right - they don't have one. I have tried contacting Chat support, but it just sits on the "Waiting for an agent" message FOREVER, and doesn't even tell me how long the wait will be. I have tried sending an email instead, but I never receive a confirmation and nobody has got back to me. This is a serious problem that needs an immediate resolution. I would really love to have a way to contact a real-live actual human being and speak to them about this problem, in order to get a real resolution PROMPTLY. Please, if there are any Squarespace employees listening, please get in touch with me at the phone number beginning with that's associated with my account, beginning with 858. This is extremely urgent. Link to comment

rbehal
Same exact issue. I literally do not know how such a basic functionality cannot be working, we are victims of this as well, as our domains just got transferred. - None of our path redirects are working. When I explicitly check "forward paths" and hit save, it instantly reverts back on the UI. - It will not let me redirect the www subdomain. It raises a validation error "Implementing this rule could interfere with how the domain works with the website." What does this even mean? I'm not using Squarespace for any website, I literally just want the most standard domain redirect... Did you contact support? Edited May 17 by rbehal Link to comment
rbehal
Almost same exact issue here. All my domain redirects stop working. It literally won't even let me put www for a subdomain redirect. All my SEO on Google is broken. This has been absolutely awful, and nothing from support. It was working PERFECTLY FINE on google domains... Link to comment

PixelSoda
Hey all - Domain forwarding converting to CNAME records As far as I'm aware, domain forwarding in Google Domains shouldn't have converted to CNAME records after migration, so the issue that @SNCGuru described is worth reporting to Squarespace support. If you're worried that your ticket is being ignored, contact one of Squarespace's social media accounts and ask them to check on it for you. Path forwarding You should be able to enable path forwarding when setting up a domain forwarding rule. If you're having trouble enabling path forwarding, trying a different browser might help. If path forwarding is enabled but it's not working, contact Squarespace support so they can take a look. Forwarding the "www" subdomain EDIT: It looks like they changed how this setup works. Now it seems you need to make a forwarding rule using @ as the subdomain and also have the Squarespace defaults record preset in place. The "Implementing this rule could interfere with how the domain works with the website" error does sound a little different though, and doesn't seem to be documented. I'd recommend reporting this to Squarespace, and in the meantime you could try pointing the domain instead of forwarding. Valid subdomain error If you're seeing the "not a valid subdomain" error, make sure that you've added a subdomain in the "Forward from" field of the forwarding rule. For @DecaturishDan, no subdomain has been specified in the "Forward from" field, which is why the error says there isn't a valid subdomain. To forward a root domain, use @ as the subdomain (there is a note on this beneath the "Forward from" field). Edited June 10 by PixelSoda Updating outdated information Link to comment
Keeks1221
My website was recently migrated on 6/5, and it does not work now. Google made it very easy to manage, and now I am grasping at straws, trying to get support.I sent two emails, and nothing yet. As you all mentioned, there is no customer service number, and I don't know where to turn. I am not familiar with any of these DNS rules or conflicts because Google made it very easy, and I just left it as is and made no extra changes or modifications, therefore if ANYONE is willing to assist me, please email me at supportservices@nudecreationsnaturals.com. Thank you! Link to comment

DrJacksonEvolve
Actually, I just figured it out. Go to your squarespace editing page (assuming you use squarespace for your web design). Click settings on L side Domains & Email Domains Use Domain I own Connect to your domain name BOOM! Squarespace, your support is abysmal. Do better. m0burg3r 1 Link to comment
C2G
Hello. I'm having a similar issue. Since the google migration, all of my domains are still forwarding, but changing the forwarding rules is pulling an error message on all my domains. I need to change several of them to forward to another place. Unfortunately, every time I try to change the forwarding rules I get an error message that will not let me move forward. It doesn't like the www and then it doesn't like the @. Currently, it migrated from google with both the forward from: @ and www. I have tried everything including posting in the forum. Error: Implementing this rule could interfere with how the domain works with the website. Support was nice enough to see my post and put me in the queue for support - they have been responsive but in three days we still have not come up with a solution and I keep getting handed off to different agents so continuity is a challenge. They have been responsive, so I need to give credit for that! So, if anyone knows how to make this work or knows someone in development at SS to make it work, please help! I have a new website launching in a matter of days and need these URL's to forward properly. I'm seeing more and more of these posts on forums since the migration. P.S. It was suggested I try only using the @ (didn't work) - but I was always under the impression you should use the www. Thoughts? Here was my original support forum post with details: Link to comment
horrible
Looks like this is an issue "everyone" has now with domains migrated from google domains. They are in a limbo. Squarespace thinks google domains manages the domain and google domains says squarespace handles it. Multiple requests returns: { "type": "entity-not-found", "subtype": null, "message": "No such domain exists.", "details": null } But my domains are listed and shown as active. But every change or update fails. Link to comment
PixelSoda
Hi @C2G - I think Squarespace updated the steps they have for forwarding both the "@" and "www" version of your domain. There's now a spot that reads: Quote If your Squarespace default records are in place, the "www" version of your domain automatically forwards to the same location as your root domain. Out of curiosity, have you confirmed that the Squarespace default records are in your domain's DNS settings? If not, try using these steps: Remove the domain forwarding rule Add the Squarespace default records in the DNS settings using the Preset button Add the forwarding rule again (only for the "@" subdomain, there's no need to make a forwarding rule for the "www" subdomain) If that doesn't work and you've already had a lot of back and forth with the Squarespace team, you could ask them to escalate your case. The response time might be a bit slower but they'd be able to check if there's something else going on! Edited June 10 by PixelSoda Fixed typo Link to comment
bloomingqui
I have 2 domain names to migrate to Squarespace. Given the complexity and loss of earning I am facing in spending so much time trying to sort this, I think that I will have to just delete my domain names. this really is abusive Link to comment
rdagitz
PixelSoda is right! I don't know if this is a "hack" or what but this is what I did to fix the problem. (All of this is done on the domain you wish to forward.) Go to you Squarespace domains account Choose the domain that you have been forwarding under Google that was transferred to Squarespace. Choose Website on the Left Copy and Paste all of your existing forwards in to a spreadsheet so that you have a list from which to work as you rebuild them. Delete all of the Domain Forwarding rules you had when you were with Google. Choose DNS on the Left Under DNS Settings, choose the Add Preset button at the top and choose Squarespace Defaults from the list. (This will add the default DNS records for using Squarespace to your DNS records. It is fine. What follows will delete them.) Choose Website on the Left Under Domain Forwarding, choose the Add Rule button. The first rule to add, I believe, must be the root domain forward. For "Forward From" you only put "@" (without the quotes) and list where you want the root domain forward to point in "Forward To." (This step will delete the Squarespace Defaults records you added earlier from your DNS records. That's ok.) Now add back all of the domain forwarding records you had for your subdomains. I used the spreadsheet a made from my copy/paste earlier to keep track of what records were needed. Link to comment
Nando4
Hello, My site is new and still says under construction after 4 days. No subdomain. Would you have any suggestions? Bill234
@Nando4I see your domain forwards now, how long did it take for it to finally work? Link to comment
C2G
@Nando4 @Bill234 It took several days for mine to work and I was about to give up. They finally marked it a "known issue" that was affecting many and prioritized it. I didn't do anything different except one day I went in and it was working. I'm so glad they fixed it! HOWEVER, I just posted about a similar issue I'm now having with two other URLs. One that had a website connected to it and now does not and another that I just transferred in from hostinger. It's a DNS record error, but errors should show in red and they are not, so I'm stuck again until support or this forum can help. Link to comment
prupa
No official statements from squarespace team about this? I got many complaints from my clients because of this XoX m0burg3r 1 Link to comment
m0burg3r
This happened to me too. I reached out to customer service explaining the problem, twice, and each time I received a response to the tune of, 'your URL points to a Squarespace landing page, I don't see the problem.' The thing is, Squarespace is intentionally unintuitive to prevent inherited customers from leaving (notice how there's no information on this site about transferring domains AWAY from SS, only TO). In the past week, I've lost the ability to modify redirects at all, never mind for all of my subdomains. I did the math, and it turns out that this gross negligence committed by SS has cost my business about $8,000 since April when they finally took over my domains from Google. Okay then, if they aren't going to help me after their negligence cost me a lot of money, I'll migrate every one of my domains to WordPress (done), but oh no, SS can't just do that. It takes 2 whole days to unlock a domain, plus 1 day to receive a transfer code, plus 5 more days "grace period" wherein SS is hoping you'll be desperate enough during that 5-day blackout where nobody can access your website, that you'll change your mind. But they had the audacity to tell me payment is due when I intentionally removed my payment information because I refuse to pay a company that hurts my own business and can't figure out how to fix it when I clearly outlined it to them, twice.
