Customer Notifications for purchases of multiple product types

Our shop offers both physical products and a few downloadable products.  If a customer purchases a physical product as well as a downloadable one, the email they receive concatenates the customer notification content for both product types.  This is resulting in redundant email content.   Is there a way to default to one email if multiple product types are purchased?
