is there a way to us Data from a form throughout the site

Is there a way to use the name / email from from a form on the rest of the site?  ie if someone fills out a contact form, on the next page it would say "thanks Ben".  or on other parts I could retain that (maybe as a cookie) to start other forms with information that was previously entered?
