Squarespace_PDX23 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I am in the process of updating a client's site. I want to migrate the site from 7.0 to 7.1, but unfortunately, they are on a template that isn't compatible with Squarespace's Migration tool. I'd like to a) avoid site downtime as much as possible and b) prevent the loss of their analytics data (unfortunately, they don't have GA set up). I'm trying to weigh all of the potential options for the site migration, and I'm wondering if the following process could work: - Duplicate the site - Transfer domain to new duplicated site - Install Compatible Template on 7.0 - Migrate to 7.1 - Redesign site in 7.1 - Transfer domain back to the original newly redesigned site The benefit of this I see is that - Site would remain live - The site would keep most of the historical analytic info (with a small gap between when the other site being built) - SEO and content would transfer over, which would save time However, I haven't seen anyone recommend this on any forum or guide. Are there any reason why this wouldn't work? Thanks in advance for any insight!
TayloredData Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Hi @Squarespace_PDX23, I think this plan makes sense! Why would their analytics have a gap as long as the site goes live during off hours for their site visitors? Also, I would definitely advise them to add Google Analytics or an alternative to their website as Squarespace analytics has some limitations.
