Blog post location metadata

Hi there,

I'm using Squarespace v7.1 and I am trying to hook into the "Location" metadata that can be associated with individual blog posts. So far, the only thing that I seem to be able to do is surface the location name (linked to a corresponding map) via a Summary block. However, what I am hoping to ultimately do is:

  1. Surface the information directly on the blog post itself, ideally linked to a map similarly to how the Summary block works (current non-ideal workaround is to use a Map block, but as far as I can tell that means I have to enter the location info twice: once in the post settings, and once in the block settings)
  2. Roll up all location data into a single view (e.g., a single, interactive map that shows all blog post locations with the ability to click through to a filtered view of posts that share a single location)

I found this 2-year-old post in this forum describing something similar and it was apparently unsupported then; I'm hopeful that there are better workarounds available now...?

Is there at least a way I can display the metadata using a Code block by printing the variable in which the metadata is stored? Or is there something akin to a Wordpress shortcode I can use?

Thank you!

There isn't a built-in feature for this but there's a paid plugin called Advanced Map Block [affiliate link] which makes it super easy to take the metadata from all the blog posts and represent them on a map.

Thanks Paul! I appreciate you taking the time to respond. That looks like it would do the trick except the site I'm working on doesn't support code injections.

It's strange that the Sqarespace UI makes it so easy to maintain the location data, but provides no OOTB mechanism for displaying it. Working within the guardrails of this platform is definitely going to require me to retrain my Wordpress-accustomed brain!
