Restaurant Orders, how to get audible New Order Alert

Recommended Posts

Hi,

we are running our restaurant website on Squarespace with a store to order for take-away. We have a tablet in the restaurant running the app. But in the restaurant it can get very chaotic so that Squarespace orders often are seen too late, and the customer has already arrived for pick-up.

Is there a way to add an audio alert for new orders, so that the staff for sure will not miss the order? This can be an in-app option, or better: a seperate device like a buzzer that can be connected and will make a sound when a new order comes in.

Any suggestions or other restaurant owners facing the same problem? Upon search, I could not find anything related.

Thanks a lot!

If they are enabled, the Squarespace app should trigger notifications with sounds (it's usually a cash register sound) as each order arrives. For a louder notification, you could connect a bluetooth speaker 🙂 to the tablet.

That said, I'm curious how you manage the orders once you know they have arrived. Don't you need kitchen order tickets to be printed or for orders to be shown on a kitchen display system?

Hey Paul,

thanks for the reply. The bluetooth speaker is a good idea...

For now we only have a tablet with the orders dashboard showing. It is basically "luck" for the staff to see that a new order has come in, since they are running around quite a bit, and can easily miss the tablet sound. And to have one dedicated person to take care of the online orders also does not work.

Printed kitchen order tickets would be great, but I have not found a way to do that with Squarespace. Is that possible? I know that it is possible with Wordpress, since they allow different plug-ins to work together (Woocommerce for taking the order, and a cloud printing plug-in to print the order via thermal printer). Do you know if Squarespace orders can be automatically printed in a similar way?

I did find this older thread with your comments as well:

Thanks

@OngTao

I don't know of any restaurants using Squarespace for online orders for exactly this reason, which is one of the reasons I was interested in your post 🙂.

There isn't a ready made solution but I may explore this further because I imagine a solution would be useful to others. If anyone is using Squarespace to manage takeout food orders, please post details so that we can build up a picture of the scenarios and the workarounds being used.

I manage the websites for two local restaurants and we are eagerly awaiting the ability to auto-print orders to our kitchen from Squarespace. Maybe one day! Good for you for trying to make it work.

Thank you for posting. How is it working for them? Are they using any workarounds? Do they use other systems to receive food orders too?
