Custom code to list blog entries as a grid

Hello!

I'm currently using the Five template for a blog on 7.0 to get the sidebar feature. However, I would like the blog posts to be organized as a grid, like in the Brine template, but Five only allows for the list display.

I'm not interested in making a separate page and using summary blocks, I'm trying to keep this site as simple as possible and would just like to get my hands on some code that would allow this display mode. The sidebar feature isn't available in 7.1 otherwise I would have upgraded.
