Solutions for dealing with large numbers of uploaded PDFs/documents, especially since the latest changes to Squarespace's file upload/link UI?

A few months ago, Squarespace went back to the more integrated UI for uploading/searching your uploading files (pdfs, docs, etc) and linking them on a page. The previous, more-independent window of uploaded files, was replaced with a small, more-integrated list (isn't this what it was like in 2019 ish, too? anyway...).

This update/reversion has made it really hard to manage clients' libraries of PDFs, especially as long-loading times + unresponsive UI in the editor now accompany bloated libraries as of this update. Which, in turn, makes it difficult to clean/alleviate the problem, especially in this smaller, more cramped UI.

I filed a ticket, but was hoping someone may have a solution after having a similar experience - this update is kicking my butt.

You're not alone. Sadly, I don't have a solution as this will need to come from Squarespace.

However, as you'll see, many users have reported issues with the new Link Editor. I look forward to a day when files like PDFs and documents can be managed in the Asset Library.

Yes! I thought the previous link editor was stepping us in that direction, was surprised when it went away.
Awh well - thank you for making me feel less alone!

In the mean time you still can access the Classic Link Editor, when edit Clickthrough Link for a gallery section images, you can click the Gear icon on the LINK input to access the old Link Editor for easier Asset manager UI

Step-by-step below:

  • Edit a page with Gallery section from your Pages panel.
  • Hover over the gallery section and click Edit gallery.
  • Click the image where you want to add the clickthrough URL.
