Getting the year added to blog post dates.

I'm moving over a blog from WordPress, just a private blog journal style. I've been adding the years to the individual blog posts because if you're going to have a blog that doesn't have a date, it is silly, and adding it manually is a lot of extra work when you are moving. The answer I received so far was that you have to buy a business account and then add a code snippet. I just want to know if that's correct. I can't imagine a company as large as Squarespace doing something so shady to its users. I mean, to do that, you would have to actively decide to do it.
