jessiejay9753276 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 (edited) Hello, Hopefully someone can help me. I am wanting to change the link that a customer is directed to when certain items in my store are clicked instead of the product details page. All the items under the hire category i would like them to go directly to their hire page that has the rentle software embedded in, instead of going to a product details page first. too much clicking and navigating! https://www.authored.co.nz/store/hire Edited February 1 by jessiejay9753276 .
Ziggy Posted February 1 Posted February 1 You could use URL mapping tool for this, but if you don't want a user going to a product page then it's better to not have the product link in the first place and just design a page with the correct link. https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205815308-URL-mappings Please like and upvote if my comments were helpful to you. jessiejay9753276 Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 thank you for your response!! hmmm, i have just tried URL mapping and it doesnt work - is that because it only works if one link is dead? i tried using both 301 and 302. and i don't think your other suggestion will work as i have other products on my store that i want set up like regular products with their product details pages etc.

jessiejay9753276 Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 thank you - so there isn't something to change the link when the product is clicked? creating a new page with product blocks for my whole store will be a lot more work!

If I understand you correctly, you have a Store page where the Product List Page (PLP) shows some products that are for sale through the Squarespace cart/checkout workflow, and some other products in the "Hire" category that are only for hire. If a user selects one of these "hire" products, you'd like to send them to a different page where they can hire the product. If this isn't the situation, please correct me 🙂. I guess there are two approaches you could take, each with benefits and challenges: 1. Remove the placeholder products for hire products so they don't appear in the Squarespace Store page. You could then embed the top-level "hire" page and link directly to this from the header so that the hire products can be navigated on a separate page. 2. Alternatively, you could write some code to keep like it is. If you want to do this, I'd suggest that you match the URL slugs for the hire embed page and the product page that you are using as a placeholder. This will help keep the code simple and reduce the admin to a minimum. For example, change the URL of the "Rebozo Hire" placeholder product from /store/p/rebozo to /store/p/hire-rebozo to match the hire page slug of /hire-rebozo. You could also tag the product to indicate it is for hire only. Once you've made these changes, some code can be written to automatically modify the links on the PLP page for products tagged "hire-only" to remove the "/store/p/" element. I hope this makes sense as a starting point. Did this help? Please give feedback by clicking an icon below ⬇️ Me: I'm Paul, a SQSP user for >18 yrs & Circle Leader since 2017. jessiejay9753276 Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 @paul2009 this is super helpful thank you! i might give option 2 a go! if possible could you give me the code required and where i inject it once i have changed the urls of the product pages to match the embed pages as you've suggested.
