What's new at Squarespace — January 2024

Recommended Posts

Check out everything new that happened at Squarespace in January below. Which updates are you most excited about?

Commerce

Send subscription renewal reminders to your customers

You can now send subscription renewal emails automatically. When enabled, subscribers will receive an email reminder 15 days before their subscription renews.

To be eligible for reminder emails, you need to have a subscription term of 12 weeks or more (if renewing weekly) or three months or more (if renewing monthly).

Customers can now purchase digital products from their paywalls

When a customer hasn’t yet purchased a digital product (access to a course, video page, or member site), they’re shown a paywall that merchandises the product. You can now feature different pricing plans on this paywall so that users can purchase the product directly from it.

You can test this feature out by accessing your digital product page from the Pages panel and then clicking Paywall

Authenticate your bank account for Squarespace Payments with microdeposits

You can now authenticate your bank account for Squarespace Payments with microdeposits. This is a small sum of money deposited into your account and includes a verification code in the deposit description.

Websites

A new header editing experience

When editing your 7.1 site header, you can now interact with each element directly, instead of going through a single pop-up menu. The following elements can be edited directly by clicking Edit Site Header:

  • Site title & logo
  • Navigation
  • Account
  • Social links
  • Cart
  • Button
  • Language switch

Link editor improvements

We’ve made adding links to your site’s buttons and text more intuitive with UI updates to the link editor. You can still link existing site content, external URLs, files, phone numbers, and email addresses through the editor.

Co_Rick Rubin Transmission template

Squarespace Collection brings the world’s most creative minds together with Squarespace to create something beautiful. We’re excited to introduce the latest Squarespace Collection, a collaboration with Rick Rubin to build tetragrammaton — his online world of curated materials sourced from intuition and intellect — and a new website design to inspire your creativity. Transmission is a minimally designed, customizable template for anyone to share their own interests, with layouts showcasing audiovisual media and members-only content.

The “folder” tool has been renamed to “dropdown”

We’ve renamed the folder tool to dropdown to better represent its function. Dropdowns can be added in the Pages panel to nest multiple pages under a single page title.

The Esc key login shortcut has been removed

Prior to this update, pressing the Esc key on a Squarespace site would lead to a login screen. This keyboard shortcut has been removed as part of a larger effort to streamline menu navigation.

@VirginiaRR I imagine this is because this template is currently only available in English but your browser is using another language? Here's an alternative link https://transmission-fluid-demo.squarespace.com/ but if this doesn't work, please direct message me with your email address (the one you use for Squarespace) and I'll create an English trial for you 🙂.

These updates are all great but is there any estimate of when or if Squarespace will address the Member Site issue of allowing anyone to create and login to an account from the Member Site login screen?  This is REALLY important.  Either that or enable the administrator to manually add members with a csv file.  Heck I'd even type them in individually.

I do not want to add 'non-certified' code for workaround.  I do believe this is a big issue for many many people. I tried to get an answer to this issue while in the trial period, to no avail.  It is a show stopper and is causing me to now look elsewhere, for a website building tool, after spending countless hours building pages, files, links etc.,

PLEASE fix this.

As per some of the previous comments, these updates are all great, but when is Squarespace going to address the issue of not being able to modify subscription pricing.  This is a show stopper for us.  We can't be expected to approach hundreds and hundreds of our customers who have subscriptions with us and expect them to cancel their subscriptions and purchase a new one.  Is there an ETA on this enhancement.

Please fix this!!

Hello, and hope everyone is well.  I am hoping to see the following improvements to Courses, which would make it much better and easier to use:

1) Duplicate entire courses

2) Allow for limited time access to specific courses

3) Allow for different social sharing images for each course

4) Create course reminders  - and ideally users can choose how often they want to be reminded. (Some of my users forget to check in! )

Finally, 5) an easy way to pay in multiple currencies would be SO appreciated.

Thank you for taking these improvements into consideration!!!

@asomma Squarespace doesn’t use this forum to track demand for new features or to accept feature requests. To ensure your feature requests are seen by the right people at Squarespace, you are encouraged to raise a ticket through Squarespace Customer Support 🙂.

You won't see a specific option for "Feature Request" but don't be put off. You can select any option and it will still reach the correct team.

There is absolutely no option for feature request in the dropdown that appears following your link. Also the former "ideas" pages do not seem to be accessible anymore. Where are we supposed to raise feature requests and how are we supposed to gather feedback on them?

It feels like Squarespace is actively trying to discourage feature requests.

Some long standing issues, like lack of WebP support, need to be addressed and yet there is no place to do a proper feature request.

I agree with @trych ...there is no feature request option.  I did contact support and they gave me a vague answer which was simply we don't know if / when we will address your issue.  The better way is to allow feature requests to be raised and then the community can "upvote" if they want the feature and provide feedback that would contribute to feature requirements.  They way they do it now is terrible.  Squarespace should read these comments and see how unhappy people are.
