Want to connect website I made to domain I own (all Squarespace)

Not really an expert on this stuff. I spent days creating a website on here and purchased it. It gave me a random url like pineapplesilverfish234092.squarespace.com. I did all this while waiting for the transfer of the domain from godaddy to complete.

It is completed now, so I want to connect the website I created to the domain I went through hell to secure via transfer. However, all of the help topics are talking about moving the domain that my thousands of customers know to the random name.squarespace.com. This seem ass backwards to me. I want to merge the website to the important domain, not move the domain the random generate URL of the website. I see I am not the only one with this issue.  Any help is appreciated.

So...I believe it is just the explanation that is backwards. To link your website to your chosen domain, you "move the domain" to the website. It doesn't make sense to me. It still seems like the explanation is backwards.

Now when I go to my chosen domain, I can see my website. I can also go to the generic dingleberry-hamsterwheel6969.squarespace.com to see my website.

I will leave this up in the hopes that it helps someone else.

I'm in the same boat...or, two boats at the same time.  Squarespace says I cannot move the transferred domain to my trial website because (apparently) they are in different accounts.  Either I or they did not transfer the domain from GoDaddy into the existing trial account, but rather SET UP ANOTHER ACCOUNT! (yes, I'm yelling...)

But Squarespace does not provide a recognizable way of merging two accounts.  If it was as simple as entering two of their abysmal long account numbers on one form, it might be possible.

There is a way to move the domain from one account to the other. Think of your main (original) account as your primary account and your new domain account as your secondary account.

  1. Log on to your secondary account and invite your primary account’s email address as a contributor.
  2. Open a private or incognito browser window and then log into your primary account’s email address and accept those invitations.
  3. Return to the main browser window where you are logged in to the secondary account and then change ownership to your primary account.

For more details, see Merging Squarespace accounts.
