harlowbogie
Hi, Last week I launched this new Squarespace website. The old website was built in Wordpress (it hasn't been deactivated). I added SEO descriptions for several of the new pages, however only one of them is showing up in a web search--the one I wrote for the Homepage. There are other SEO descriptions appearing, but they're for the old Wordpress pages and their respective old SEO descriptions. How can I remove the old Wordpress pages and their descriptions from web searches? How can I set things up so only all of the new Squarespace SEO descriptions are showing all? Since the old Wordpress site hasn't been deactivated, if I deactivated it, would that help? Thanks in advance! Link to comment
Sifat_SEOSpace
Hi - @harlowbogie I can help you out here with this situation. Here is my suggestion: To remove the old SEO description from search engines, go to Google Search Console and do "Live Test" and request for indexing. Next time Google goes through your website, it should notice the new SEO description and display it correctly. Here's a video on how to do a "live test" and request for indexing on Google Search Console: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAjd9B7whgY Sometimes if your SEO description isn't optimized, it won't show up correctly, here's a video on how to do that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeweiQFqGWs To help further, please confirm if the WordPress website is on a different domain or not? harlowbogie
Thank you! The old Wordpress website was on the same domain name. Do you recommend that Wordpress site is deactivated since now it's on Squarespace? Link to comment
Solution Sifat_SEOSpace Posted January 26 Solution Share Posted January 26 (edited) Hello, @harlowbogie Thank you for getting back to me. To address your requirement, you can follow these steps: Since your website is now on Squarespace, the WordPress website should no longer be working. Note: If your domain name registrar is different from Squarespace, ensure that you remove the old hosting information from the domain's DNS settings. If both the domain name and hosting are controlled by Squarespace, there is no need to worry about it. Send removal requests through Google Search Console for those URLs that don't exist on your new website. harlowbogie
Thank you! For the explanation and YouTube video tutorial. I'm glad to hear that we shouldn't need to deactivate the Wordpress website. Since the domain name is registered with Bluehost (it is connected to the Squarespace website), then we'll take your advice and ensure that we remove the old hosting information from the domain's DNS settings.
