Deleting products -- 7.1 bug?

Recommended Posts

This is odd. I've been maintaining a 7.0 site, and I am sure I've had no problem deleting up to 50 products at a time using Select All on the Selling>Products list.

Today I'm experimenting with a 7.1 trial. I imported 59 products, and now I want to delete them. Since the 7.1 Store page editor shows a handy checkbox list of all the products, I used Select All, then Delete.  The error I get is "Couldn’t delete items/Request failed with status code 429". I also tried deleting the products from the Selling>Products list. Again it lets me select all and click delete, but this time it shows no error message, even though nothing gets deleted.

Surely I'm not the first person to have encountered this. What am I doing wrong?

Unfortunately this is a known bug (link for Circle members). The workaround is to delete products one-by-one.

This gets even worse: Somehow, by deleting some products with a category I didn't want to use, I ended up ghost-aliasing that category. The unwanted category was "emprex2021". I changed that to "emprex21" in the store (it's one of four categories). But now new products imported from CSV containing either "emprex21" or "/emprex21" in the Categories field end up uncategorized. They don't show up in the nav tree category count, and they don't show the "emprex21" category on their editor pages.

So I manually created a couple of new products in the "emprex21" category. They do show up in the nav tree category count, and their editor pages do show "emprex21". Screenshot2024-01-16at10_30_08AM.thumb.png.71c3b65d5ed787ce0b8e7a99e94fc348.png

But when I export those to CSV, they have "/emprex2021" in their Categories fields!

So now if I export that inventory to CSV,  and import it to a different site (like when I move this inventory from the test site to a production site) I'm going to end up in the same pickle all over again! Yeesh.

The best work around for this is actually to:

Select one product.
Choose "Select All"
Deselect a single product.
Delete 49 products at a time.

NOTE TO SQUARESPACE:
Learn to use arrays properly! This bug will be down to the misallocation of indexes in arrays.

Also, 50 at a time when the platform can handle 10,000 products?! Fix this. Now. Please 🙂

Also. Allow for bulk image updates in import/bulk edits. That is all.
