Eliminating need for password on a member

I'm holding an online summit of pre-recorded sessions being released over 10 days. I created this area in the members site. Is there a way to eliminate having to enter a password when you sign up? It's free, and I want people to sign-up with their name and email so I can send them updates during the summit, but I don't need them to have a password as anyone can typically join this. I'm afraid that having to make a password. might be deterring some people from signing up. How can I eliminate that option. Also is there a way to eliminate the automatic email sent out that makes them need to confirm?

I would like to remove creating a password when members join a member site area. Is this possible? Or to have it automatically fill in a generic password.
