sbug Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Dear all, I've been having some trouble with Google indexing my site and only until recently sat down and properly investigated the errors. I don't use any custom CSS or plugins either. I've been receiving a soft 404 error on GSC. I did a live URL inspection and found some warning messages and one error message with the Squarespace video player. I did a test and replaced the background video on that homepage with just an image and now Google likes it. The URL that was unavailable to Google is now available to Google and I can request indexing once again. In other words, I would love some help with the background image on the homepage. Why would the video player produce the soft 404 error? and is there any way that I can fix it? Has this happened to anyone else? Please see my attached files for reference of how i found the issue and how the error codes are displayed.
sungodmotel Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Thanks for flagging this! Was banging my head against a wall trying to figure out why my website wouldn't get picked up by Google. Ran the same test you did and removing my video background immediately fixed the soft 404 errors.
serena_m Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Hello, I was having the same issue! I've removed the video background and it says it will index it now but it hasn't yet and it's been over a week. How long did it take for you both for Google to index your website?
