Audio file not loading

Recommended Posts

Most of what I've researched shows limited (or no) success with OneDrive, Dropbox, SoundCloud, and other "offshore linking" of audio, too many complaints about that method.

I've already put in many, many hours attempting and re-attempting the audio block upload—various browsers, clearing cache, reformatting audio, renaming items—and at this point I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they resolve this in 24-48 hours (or less).

Embedding audio blocks in Squarespace has worked perfectly, flawlessly and I'll keep doing so once it's working again.

You can get a free 100MBs account on OpenDrive that follows Spotify's "mp3" formatting, I was able to upload my 90 minute podcast and it just pushed out to my RSS feed.  Spotify, iTunes, etc. are now showing the episode.  What a huge hassle.

Broken_Radio,

Thanks for sharing news about OpenDrive, I'd not heard of them, very helpful.

  • Most of my files are 30–ishMB or no bigger than 60-ishMBs.
  • That 100mb file of yours, I imagine it's much larger when uncompressed.
    • What MP3 bitrate/res/kHZ settings do you use?

Agreed. I tried to load a link from my Speaker site using the external file tab....nothing happened. Waiting sucks, but it seems like the only real solution unless someone else has any ideas. Thanks....any suggestions accepted.

Stuck on the Processing and Identifying.
Major issue since we have a live show this weekend, and this is our lead up episode to the performance.

This is pretty unacceptable from a website host that hosts thousands of different podcasts.

☀️ 2024 July 3–4, tried multiple (up-to-date) browsers, clearing cache, renaming files, reformatting files.

Still eager to solve this, I attempted mobile workarounds evening of July 4th but with no success:

  • Mobile app does not provide audio block additions
    • unfortunately, it's merely a text and mark-up tool.
  • Mobile browser permits adding audio blocks
    • but same failure and (recurrent) processing happens
    • upload not accepted.

Convinced this is a server-side problem, or browser-integration issue, or both (or something else?).

Just updating that I am having the same issue as I tried to upload another podcast today. The same "processing and identifying" stall occurred. Any updates or suggestions are appreciated. I can distribute my podcasts through Spreaker to many outlets, which is fine, but it is very damaging to my website traffic. Good luck to all!

Danny56,

I too tried this morning with no success, a real bummer.

No further updates from them via email either, no additional follow-up via X-direct-messaging, and I noticed on X/twitter that complaints about this problem continue to grow.

I have been in contact with them as well. At this point they believe that there is an issue with the file itself, so I have sent that to them. We shall see. Earlier I had sent them a screen shot with the Javascript console from an incognito browser, but they did not seem to find any clues from that. Certainly, the Javascript console was not happy! Hopefully the long weekend crew can resolve this issue!

Appreciate the update, bobtherriault.

A file issue is possible, but since 2024 May, I've been using the same audio-media export settings, and the same app to save files, working 100% well.

  • When this first started happening July 3-4, after multiple failed uploads of new audio, I dug up older audio files that successfully uploaded June 27 & June 13; older files completely uploaded in June, but trying July 3–4 it didn't work.
  • A more likely culprit, could be the way browsers import content, and if so that means a fix could be the week of July 8th if/when browser patches debut.
  • At this point, so much speculation, very little progress, and no fix.

But kudos to Squarespace's Tech Team for gathering testing media, going the extra mile with customer content. Using "real world content" means they're plugging away and (hopefully) getting closer to a solution.

I can confirm this as well, a file from Monday that uploaded perfectly would not upload when I tested it on Wednesday night.

Has anyone had luck with using SoundCloud to embed audio? I chose to sidestep the whole issue with uploading mp3s and tried to use a SoundCloud link. It wouldn't work! The audio file will not play. Audio files are critical to my online course, and if I have to switch platforms now because they can't get their act together it's going to be a nightmare....
