forced mobile menu on desktop - adding an image before text links, problems with responsive

Hey there,

i've added an image before the text links / pages in the menu.
the menu is the mobile overlay / dropdown menu force onto desktop. 

the problem i'm having is that when i resize the window the top of the star is getting cut off and then disappearing.

the background of the menu is also low opacity when the menu is opened from anywhere other than the initial 'landing page' / top of each page. weird!!!

any help would be really appreciated thank you!!
