I spent several hours trying to figure this out. No combination of the "Scheduling Page Options" or calendar settings would change the look of the calendar.

Using custom CSS was to blame

Removing the custom CSS finally presented a warning that it was an "Unsupported Feature" for the "new scheduling page experience".

You are using the new scheduling page experience, however Advanced CSS is not yet supported. If you enable this feature, we'll automatically switch you back to the current scheduling page.

After seeing that phrase, I was finally able to search for the issue which led to an FAQ page for  Using the new scheduler which describes the different ways it could be automatically disabled.

I think it is important to call out Acuity's complete failure in providing adequate information on this topic. There is no mention of this behavior in the FAQ pages for  Elements of a scheduler or  Choosing scheduler templates, which only cover the new-style calendar, or in the developer documentation for CSS Customization.

They also fail to provide any warning when you have done something to disable the new scheduling page experience; you are only warned when you haven't used the unsupported feature.

Keywords for the forum in case other developers are searching based on the markup of the new calendar:

  • Secondo - seems to be the name of their React lib for "Next Generation Scheduling"
  • csp.secure.acuityscheduling.com - origin serving the new JS/CSS assets
