Upgrades that can't be purchased on their own (NOT add-ons!)

Complete novice here. Right now I am being told that the way products are set up, someone can order JUST gift wrapping without ordering anything else from the store to be gift wrapped. I am having a hard time believing this. I am trying to offer UPGRADES not add-ons. In particular, hand painted gold accents to my custom sugar cookies. I attached an image. I'd like the upgrade to be on this page with the cost added here if possible.  I cannot possibly be the only person having this problem. If anyone knows of a plug-in of some kind that I can purchase or a clever way to do this, could you please post ideas? Maybe somewhere on the checkout page???

The "Product Add-on" feature is brand new (added on 9 November). At the moment it allows customers to add selected independent products and, because these products are available elsewhere on the site, it doesn't prevent them being purchased without the main product.

I can see why this is an issue and this is something that I asked the team about last week. I'm hoping this can be added as a feature in the future.

In the meantime, here are a couple of suggestions:

• Add another variant option product named something like "Metallic Accents", in addition to your two Flavor options, to allow users to add one of these as a variant.  
• Alternatively, you could use the Product Add-on feature with some custom code that would need to be written to disable the add-on buttons until the Add to Cart button for the main product has been clicked.
