Background image super pixellated

Hey folks, I'm trying to change the background image on my website but every image I choose becomes super distorted and pixellated when I upload and add it as a background. The original images are fairly good quality, and it happens the same with every image, so this definitely isn't anything to do with the images themselves. Any advice much appreciated!
